Splogs - The Sons of Spam

Spam has become a daily feature of most of your lives. It's annoying but little by little you're starting to control it or have even managed to eliminate it. It's such a shame that the wonderful tool that email is had to be abused and corrupted by a few greedy individuals all over the world. The Internet and email have helped revolutionized the way we live. It's really that simple.

Now there's a new threat to the online world. The Internet is now being corrupted by a new menace - the splog.

A splog is a spammy blog. Now you all know that spam is useless and repetitive junk email but what's a blog? Blogs are a type of online journal used by millions of people and businesses all over the world to share their thoughts, ideas and products with the online community. Blogs are in a word - great!

Now the spammers have a new toy - the blog. They've taken something that has real value and use and have now corrupted it for their own purposes. So spam blogs = splogs. It's a cute name for something that has become a real problem online.

What do sploggers do?
They use special software packages to generate hundreds or thousands of blogs each and every day. They then fill these blogs with crap content produced by other software packages - the content itself is stolen from other websites, jumbled around and the put online. Most of it is nonsense that you can't even read. They then fill those pages with adverts.

Why do they do it?
Once the splogs are put online the search engines find them, people click on the ads in the splog and the splogger can potentially make a lot of money. The splogs are specially designed to offer zero value so that you'll click on the Google or Yahoo ads instead. It's a complete scam but a highly profitable one.

Fight back
You're sick of seeing splogs when you search for something online? Me too! Splogging adds nothing to the online world and makes surfing the 'net very frustrating. There's a difference though with splogs though. Unlike with spam you can take direct action against sploggers themselves.

If you ever see Google or Yahoo ads on these splogs then simply report the splog to Google or Yahoo. You can do this by usig the feedback link within the ads themselves. In most cases Yahoo or Google will shut the bloggers account down. The end result will be no more cash for that spammer.

Help tidy up the Internet. It belongs to you - not the spammers. Report a splogger today.
