Spam Bully Review

Spam Bully
Spam Bully is the new kid on the block. Not only is it the new kid but it's also the latest in the line of Bayesian spam filters to hit the virtual software shelves. Bayesian spam filters are in a word "intelligent". They can learn from their mistakes and you can "teach" them to look for repeating patterns in specific types of e-mail that would highlight the offending e-mail as spam. This means that Spambully will learn from you what types of emails you consider spam and those which you don't.

The really neat thing about Bayesian spam filters is their learning capability. As you continue to mark messages as spam and not spam, the software continually adjusts and learns from your behaviour. So in time, the spam filter learns enough to block spam far more effectively than other conventional softwares. The set back is of course, you've got to give it sufficient time to learn. Wait until two weeks to let it run in enough before you can see a marked accuracy in spam detection.

Spam Bully is an integrated solution for Outlook and Outlook Express users. It is always a little surprising to see companies developing products for a narrow specific market, but that also shows their capability to compete in a tight market.

Installation
The installallation file is small, at just 4.5 MB and very easy to install. Nothing surprising and no glitches during the installation. Once Spambully has installed it needs to "optimize" itself on your system. What this means is that the software needs to have a look at your existing e-mail and tries to learn what it can about the potential for spam in your inbox.

Stability
Spam Bully remained stable throughout after several weeks of testing.

Ease of use
Spam bully makes life as easy as possible in regards to fighting spam. Once you start Outlook/Outlook Express, with the Spam Bully shortcut, you're presented with the following menu bar:

Spam Bully Toolbar

Spam - this button marks the current email as spam.

Not Spam - this button marks the current email as friendly.

Process Folder - the process folder button asks the program to check your current Inbox for spam.

Bounce - this option bounces the offending email back to its source.

Email Address - allows you to maintain friendly and enemy email addresses.

Spam Bully - this button gives you a whole heap of options such as Learn Folder as Spam Mail, Untrain Filter, Run Wizard and also provides direct links to the Spam Bully help forum and contact form.

If you use the Process Folder option, it marks about 90% of your existing e-mail as spam. When you first use this option don't panic because it doesn't delete any e-mail it just moves them to a folder called spam. You can then use the Not Spam button to move the legitimate e-mail back to your inbox. This just means that you're going to be teaching your spam filter more sooner and thereby reduce your spam faster which is a great idea.

Customer Support
Spam Bully is so easy to use that you may not need any support. But if you do, then there's a forum for their users and a support section as well to answer any questions you may have.
